Tula Museum:
The daily lives of the enslaved of Curacao |
Located at plantation house Kenepa, in the western part of the island, this museum is considered one of the finest remaining examples of Dutch colonial architecture on the island. The main building at Kenepa was constructed in 1693.
The physical space of Kenepa was the habitat of different cultures. Kenepa was also the site of the beginning of the largest slave rebellion in Curacao’s history, which started August 17th, 1795.
Nowadays the plantation house has been transformed into a museum; the Tula Museum. The Tula museum expresses, the daily lives of our African ancestors, and offers a large collection of Curacao’s African heritage during and after the slavery period.
